The Ecstasy of Gold
The Ecstasy of Gold
Morning sun reflected on Regan’s Pool from the red rocks walls of Hancock Gorge.
The normal access point to this area of the Gorge network in Karijini was closed when I visited requiring a dawn scramble over rocks down a scree slope (carrying an inflated truck tyre inner tube) followed by a paddle along the still waters at the bottom of the gorge with my camera gear on my lap in a dry bag roused off with a climb up through series of canyons to reach Regan’s pool. After shooting from below, it was time to climb the walls and traverse around the ledges to this point at the top of the cascade where I could see the golden glow of the reflected sun from the gorge walls. As I set up my camera to capture this scene I reflected on the physical effort it had taken to arrive at this spectacular scene. Little did I know how much harder I would work the next day, but that is the story for another image from this remarkable place.
